An enormous truck fireplace pressured the closure of a bit of the I-95 in northeast Philadelphia after a portion of the roadway collapsed, officers stated Sunday morning.
NBC Philadelphia reported the collapse was brought on by a truck fireplace burning beneath an on-ramp.
All lanes of the freeway are shut down between the Woodhaven and Aramingo exits, the Philadelphia Workplace of Emergency Administration stated in a tweet Sunday morning.
“The roadway is gone,” unnamed officers advised NBC Philadelphia.
Runoff from gasoline or fuel strains from the burning truck can be inflicting explosions underground, Philadelphia Hearth Division Captain Derrick Bowmer advised reporters.
“We will probably be right here for awhile,” he stated. “We’ve fireplace popping out of these manholes.”
A video posted on social media captured by a driver appeared to point out plumes of black smoke rising above the freeway.
Philadelphia Gov. Josh Shapiro said in a tweet he has been briefed by officers and that first responders and transportation officers are on the scene. Shapiro added that he and Lieutenant Gov. Austin Davis are “intently coordinating” with officers within the state, all through New Jersey and within the federal authorities.
“For now, please keep away from the realm and observe the path of the primary responders on the scene,” Shapiro wrote.
It was not instantly clear if there have been any accidents.
