Mankato teacher, energy plant manager embark on Antarctica expedition

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) – Two Mankato residents have arrived in Antarctica for a once-in-a-lifetime science expedition.

Julia Battern, a trainer at Mankato East Excessive Faculty, and Micheal Innes, Operations and Upkeep Supervisor at Onward Power, began their journey on March 15.

The journey is organized by the 2041 Basis, which works to protect the frozen continent as a pure reserve.

Onward Power has sponsored the expedition.

Battern stated the journey comes at an vital time, when the varsity district is rewriting its science programs.

“I’m excited to be challenged, and I’m gonna be challenged by the individuals on this journey to possibly assume otherwise or to essentially look inside and take into consideration what am I doing, what’s my goal, and the way can I make the best affect throughout my quick time right here on earth,” Battern said.

Battern and Innes are studying about local weather change and sustainability efforts with every day workshops.

They hope to achieve a greater understanding about local weather change and what could be carried out to assist.
